TOOTH SENSITIVITY
Common Tooth Pain Causes
If you often find yourself wondering: why do my teeth hurt when I eat or what are some of the main sensitive teeth causes? It’s likely the following.
People who have acidic or sugary diets —those who regularly consume sweets, coffee, teas, and alcohol — may experience tooth sensitivity.
Tubules found in the dentin of your teeth can become exposed when enamel or cementum, normally protecting it, are removed. These dentin tubules lead to the tooth pulp which contains nerves. Because of tubule exposure, these nerve endings are now vulnerable to being triggered by foods and beverages with varying hot or cold temperatures causing sensitive teeth problems.
Another common cause for sensitive teeth is toothbrush abrasion. Brushing too hard and too often may lead to receding gums and irreversible damage to your tooth structure. If you think you’ve been brushing too hard, you should begin to use a toothbrush with softer bristles. There are also toothbrushes which indicate how hard you are brushing.
Other reasons people develop or experience worsening tooth sensitivity can be attributed to excessive teeth whitening routines and grinding your teeth which can wear down the enamel and expose the dentin.
Teeth grinding is often attributed to the overuse of chewing gum, but many people are prone to involuntarily grinding their teeth while asleep. To alleviate sensitive teeth pain due to any of these habits, immediately reduce teeth whitening rituals, cut back on the chewing gum, and consult to your dentist about obtaining a dental grade teeth guard to keep you from grinding your teeth while you sleep.
